I know what you are all thinking. The grand national is an evil race and the jumps are too high for the horses but we have significantly lowered the jumps and spent £250,000 making changes to the track much to Ginger Mccain’s disaproval. It has been described as a ‘gruelling race’ and I agree to an extent. People want to ban
horse racing and yes after today’s race changes need to be made but certainly not banned. Racehorses do enjoy racing and that is why when there is a loose horse it carries on because it is enjoying it, however this does cause even more problems.
After synchronized false start at the beginning when he attempted to jump over the starting line he made himself tired after running probaly a mile before the race even began. The jocky extremly upset was begging for him to continue and the vet very quickly checked him over and said he had no problem. Unfortunatly at the 6th jump he fell and I do believe broke a bone. The kindest thing to do was put him down before he started to feel the pain. Most of you would think this is a rubbish excuse to put a horse down but the amount of money and time (18 months) it would take for him to recover would be agonising for the horse. However I have learned today that with the right care they can be treated even if it takes 18 months.
According to Pete who was also destroyed during that race after being bought down in a pile up, had a loving owner and family and sympathy to the Nelsons. I am not aware what happened in this case but probaly the same as synchronized. Mr Nelson said before the race, “He’s a lovely animal. He always does his best. You can rely on him to do what he can”.
But what a finish the winner, Neptune Collonges was 4th after rhe last jump it was in the last run when he suddenly took to the lead. But it was the last few seconds that were really intense with Sunnyhillboy being in the lead until the last mili-second when nobody was quite sure who won. It was a photo finish with amazingly Neptune Collonges winning by I would say an inch!! My horses came 4th and 5th.
Just to finish off before you start disagreeing with me what is the difference between football and horseracing because a italian player had a cardiac arrest on the pitch and died today should football be banned too?
